Shared central EA Repo
« on: October 03, 2015, 11:58:12 am »
Hi

My org has been sending .eap file back and forth, and now we're moving to a central RDBMS shared, and with User Security and Versioning enabled.  Here's my overview of the deployment.. http://pasteboard.co/15yIEDCO.png

My big question is "is it true than XMI imports/export to and from SubVersion/SparxEA have to go through the desktop client?".  TIA

Yes, there's no server component, only a database.
So everything goes through the EA client on the desktop. If that poses a problem then you might consider something like Citrix.

And now there's a proposal to move away from Subversion and have both external and internal staff use Cloud Server.  I want to avoid forcing all users to be on the release of  Sparx EA, and the same extensions/plug-ins/add-ons/etc.

Does moving to Cloud Server mean that all users have to be using the same release of Sparx EA on their desktop?

TIA

No, "Cloud Server" just means that you have one repository that  is accessed over http(s).
It is meant as a WAN solution. In case of a LAN setup you better go for regular DBMS setup.

No, it doesn't matter which EA version or which add-ins are installed at the clients.

Okay, then that's one less reservation I have about moving to this new direction.   Thanks!
