More user friendly for drawing say 50 classes
« on: July 24, 2004, 10:57:48 pm »
The Poseidon UML tool enables much faster entry of large numbers of classes and their associations.

1. One can use the properties window that appears automatically for the selected association to more quickly choose the desired multiplicity.  One can then select 'other side' and immediately choose its multiplicity.
So there are fewer key strokes needed.

2. One can draw many classes without having to click repeatedly on the class icon in the toolbox.

Since Poseidon (ArgoUML) had 'user friendlyness' as a major objective, it may be useful to assign some systematic effort to learn from their strengths.

Hi Mike

Haven't used Poseidon, but agree with your sentiment about systematically looking at the UI strengths of other tools.

As for your point 2), there is a slightly quicker way. For your first class, click on the class button and add as usual. To add subsequent classes, hold the Ctrl key down and left click mouse button over the diagram. This will add another class without you having to keep clicking on the class icon. However, if you select something else to add to the diagram, you will have to select the class button again before the Ctrl+LMB will work again.

Si, thanks for the ctrl+LMB tip. Very helpful.

Is there an equivalent way of re-selecting a relationship?  I'm tired of repeatedly navigating to the sidebar to select one, then back to the diagram to associate two objects, then back again...

Another option would be to set keyboard shortcuts on a selector command  (e.g., crtl-alt-F to select "Flow", ctrl-alt-A to select "Associate"), but I don't see any such commands.

How's that for the shortest post I've ever done!

p.s. On the Help Menu under the Help Contents item is an item "Keyboard Accelerator Map..."  have a look in there for more great EA features.
