Space evenly - anchor element clicked
« on: November 17, 2004, 05:10:47 am »
In Align Left etc., the alignment is referenced to the element over which the context menu was invoked (right click).

If you have a 1-3-1 arrangement of elements and you would like them evenly spaced in a cross, using 'Space Evenly' upsets any alignment of the middle element if you have previously done an Align Centres.

It would be better if the Space Evenly 'anchored' the element over which the command was clicked (analogous to the Align commands), thus in the 1-3-1 case, allowing the central element to remain centred while Aligning and Spacing horizontally and vertically.

I can see why you would want this, but the problem would be that with that element 'anchored' it may not be possible to space everything evenly.

How about doing it the other way around?  Space them evenly, and then align the other side parts of your cross to the centre element.  That should produce the desired response.
