New EA version changes layouts - don't !
« on: February 15, 2005, 07:26:56 am »
Can new EA installations please not mess up existing window settings ?

I have various windows set into various tabs, and if I upgrade EA to a new version, have to redo all the work to put them back again to correct sizes and locations.

Thanks.

Mike,

Short answer is unfortunately, no.

When a release includes major changes to the UI, like adding dockable windows etc. - user layouts are going to get clobbered. The layouts are simply not backward compatible and so have to be reset to default. I realise this is an absolute pain, but we don't really have a short-term solution for this.

On the bright side - such changes are generally part of a major release like 4.51, so you shouldn't be stung by this when upgrading between minor builds (eg 747->748). If it does occur, we'd like to know about it.

Regards,
Ben

OK... nice... can you then, pre-build some user layouts? I bet that majority of your users are ex Rose people.
I simply cannot work until I have notes under project tree on my left.  ;)

Call me crazy :) ;D

This was 738->744 and 744->747.
(I don't usually upgrade until it becomes worthwhile.)

I had to re-open some windows, make them become docked split halfway, and add some to window tabs.
