Selecting message in a sequence diagram
« on: November 14, 2005, 02:44:59 am »
Sometimes it is difficult to select the message arrow in a sequence diagram when you want to activate the message properties dialogue.

When you click on the arrow sometimes the lifeline will be selected and sometimes the message text instead of the message arrow itself. Is there a way to solve this or is there a keyboard shortcut to change the selection from the message text to the message arrow (using the enter key once you have the arrow selected you can open the message properties dialog!)

Yes, its a pain  >:(

All I do is drag the message text out of the way. then I can get the arrow easily.

Hi Guys,

I see that it must be annoying, so i've logged the following request:

Problem:

When clicking on a point on the diagram occupied by multiple entities, only the topmost entity is activated.  This is annoying because you have to move the top entities to access those underneath.

Suggested solution:

Repeated clicks in the same spot will select the next underlying entity - allowing the user to cycle through all the entities at that point.

Your thoughts are welcome.

Sounds good, Ash :) Would be nice if that method applies to all kinds of entities.

Sound nice, with one addition. The z-order of iems should be inteligent.  In a sequence diagram you can easy select a life line by clicken on the lifeline icon at the top of the diagram. In the diagram the lifeline should be at the back.
Message-tekst  has some height so it will be selectedble even when it is at the back of th emessage arrow. So z-ordering should be arror at the top, lifeline at the back and text inbetween.

Yes! the z-order problem is extremely frustrating!
