SQL 2005 Express as a supported database...
« on: April 14, 2006, 11:10:58 pm »
It would be nice to have this as a supported database of the professional version, since it is free for all to download and use for development.

You'll have to be more specific. Do you mean that you want EA to have a set of DBMS data types for SQL Server 2005, or do you want EA to be able to use SQL Server 2005 as a repository? Of course you could be asking for both, but make that clear as well. Please note that in the case of the (non-Jet) repository you'll need the Corporate version of EA, just as you do now.

In general we need explicit support for MS SQL 2005. My guess is that Sparx will come up with this soon, as they have migrated SQL Server support up from version 7 over the past while.

I was an early adopter of SQL Server 2005 Express, and also tried to get EA to use it as a repository. I got poor results, but my best guess is that this was tied to a failure in the MS tool provided to configure SQL 2005. Search the forum, as I gather that others have had more success.

In the meantime I hope to see support arrive with EA 6.5 which should be fairly soon. You could put a feature request in to Sparx on this, via the Help / On-line Resources / Request a Feature menu choice in EA.
No, you can't have it!

EA can be used with SQL Server 2005 Express as a repository. We have not come across any problems as yet.

EA is also capable of reverse engineering SQL Server 2005 Express, although thorough testing has not yet been completed.
