BUG: Quick Link vs Ordinary link
« on: May 28, 2006, 11:46:55 pm »
There's a big inconsistency between what you can do with the Quick Link option and the normal connection process.  They look like (and probably were) created by at least two different sets of people with clearly different views on what elements should be linked and how...

Consistency, Consistency, Consistency! TM

Please align them...

The quick link mechanism was only ever intended to show the most commonly used subset of possible connections, hence the "quick". The normal process is supposed to allow the full range of connectors to be created.

If anything, there are probably still too many alternatives in the quick link definitions.

Then,

with respect Neil, you should let us, the users, decide what's common - for us...

Or (better) let the system determine based on our usage (ala Microsoft Office) - this is because, once I've started on Quick Link, I can get the full list without going elsewhere (by expanding the vertical guillemets).

Actually, for the present, I'd argue that the list should be complete until you enable self-organising lists.  Perhaps, a tool setting - Complete, EA subset - whatever...

I would vote for common/all setting - not all users need all linking options
