Design Master Crashes EA
« on: September 16, 2006, 01:52:39 pm »
If EA doesn't have exclusive access to the EAP file (e.g., if the EAP file is also open in Access or Microsoft Query) and an attempt is made to make the EAP file a Design Master, EA displays an "Operation Failed" error dialog (that's all the info it gives) followed by an inescapable loop where the user is repeatedly prompted to select a DSN. Once the other applicationis closed, it works fine.

This is a good point Fred,

I usually have the problem the other way around, external apps (MSAccess, .net) can't save an update to something in an EAP file that I have open in EA.  The point I want to add is that I have opened the file in EA before invoking the other app.

Other clues - I am using the Jet 4.0 interface, and am using DAO not ADO inthe other apps.  I dont know whther there is some badness in EA or whether MS is not handling the dirty flags correctly.  Does EA use row level locking or since it (still) seems to be based on Jet3 is it using page level locking?
