Maximise diagram?
« on: February 27, 2007, 11:29:52 pm »
A neat feature that I like in Eclipse and would like to see in EA is the ability to "maximise" the current diagram. I couldn't see an obvious way of doing this in EA? It may already be present.

In Eclipse I can maximise the current set of source files just by clicking on the "maximise" button. Obviously the "maximise" button becomes "restore" when in the maximised state.

The advantage of this is that when one has a large diagram (e.g. after having imported a large Java/C++ project) it would be nice to be able to double the screen area devoted to diagrams without have to close all navigation/support windows.

A good idea...  However, you can already pretty much do that via the use of View|Visual Layouts|custom layouts.

Save your current layout in one of the existing ones (I've already put in a request to allow us to name them).

Then create the layout you want (in this case with all the auxiliary windows shut down.  Save this layout into another entry.

Now you can switch between one and the other...

Being a newbie I obviously wasn't aware of the Custom Layouts option.

However, having tried it out it wasn't as intuitive or easy as the maximise/restore option in Eclipse.

The custom layouts could possibly be acceptable if there was a way to shortcut between the layouts - e.g. selectable ctl/alt keys to switch the layouts.

As far as I can see there is no such option?

You expect EA to provide an intuitive interface?  You MUST Be a newbie...  ;D

I've just spent an afternoon showing a young lass doing some diagram setup and layouts for us how to use EA and I keep getting very quizzical looks from her.

EA provides a UI (Unique Interface)

Yes, I agree with  and support your suggestion, but while Sparx thinks about if and when to implement, this is a (somewhat slow) workaround.
