Simulation capability in Business Process Modeler
« on: August 27, 2007, 12:01:13 am »
Hi,

I was wondering whether there would be way to improve the BPM capabilities with a simulation tool ?

Apart from requirements, it would be good to capture behind every activity the cost involved to run it, FTE required, time taken for the activity etc

I know EA isn't a true BPM tool, but adding this would really hit the spot with a lot of business orientated analysts I know who use EA to bridge the IT gap but have to use another tool purely for the business operational side.

This has been suggested from time to time, including recently. Please search the forum for some of the related discussion.

I share your thoughts on BPM as I am using EA to model complex business processes. I was really glad that EA came up with BPMN in the first place considering that some of the higher-priced tools do not have that capability. Having said this, I absolutely agree with the idea that EA comes up with not only simulation capability but also BPEL code generation so that the model can be ported to a BPM server. One can only hope that this will become reality.
However, I do take my hats of to Sparxians (as most of "senior" forum members like to refer to Sparx personnel) for making one solid tool and keeping the cost low and consistent.
Nonetheless, I would definitely pay a bit more for an added capability of having aforementioned capability when it comes to business process modeling.
Cheers

You have my vote for this too.  Granted, I would not expect the level of sophistication I have seen in six-figure tools but you could develop a reasonable engine relatively easily.  I've seen one done for Visio that isn't too bad.
