Mac OS X Support
« on: July 03, 2008, 08:39:55 am »
Searched the forums for "apple mac os x" - but no hits, so apologies if this topic has been discussed already.

So - is there any plan to release Enterprise Architect on the Apple Mac OS X platform?

For intel Macs EA can be run under WINE/CrossOver Office in the same fashion as it would under Linux.

Please see http://www.codeweavers.com/ for further information about CrossOver office.

Please see http://www.sparxsystems.com/support/faq/ea_on_linux.html for further information regarding installing EA under CrossOver office.
Best Regards,

Michael

There aren't any plans for a native version.  There are also some people running EA under Parallels.

Many thanks guys.  Native support would be ideal - I find running apps under Parallels a little slow and sometimes unstable.  I'll follow up the CrossOver suggestion.  Thanks again...

I run EA under Parallels with good results. I'm at the point where one of the only reasons I have Parallels (and WinXP) is to run EA  (build 831). So I tried the Crossover solution, actually got the thing running. Problem: as soon as EA starts, both cores of my C2D throttle up to about 75% and stay there  :( After 5 minutes the fans start running like mad - quite annoying. Something in EA is sitting in a CPU loop.

BTW, the add-ons required in Crossover for EA (MDAC, DCOM98) still require MS license to the appropriate WIN OS, so I'm not sure what is really accomplished by (legally) using Crossover?

BTW again, the documentation on setting up Crossover is well out of date...

Hello Danelson,

We are aware of the problem, but unfortunately it appears to be an error in crossover itself.  It doesn't happen with EA running natively, or with EA running under crossover under linux.
