BPMN Model Simulation
« on: February 06, 2009, 08:41:01 pm »
Is there any scope to add modelling simulation to the BPMN toolset? I use EA for all my requirements and UML but have switched to Tibco business studio for BPMN as it provides a simulation option. This is not ideal as I would rather everything was in EA!

I've been involved in a number of projects setting up new products within call-centre and ecommerce environments (my role is that of a business system analyst). Providing simulation models has been extremely useful during these projects.

Perhaps in 7.5. All the words you have used appear in the feature list of the beta, but I have not had time to check whether we can actually simulate a BPMN model (versus just UML models of specific types).

Perhaps some of the others who are testing the 7.5 beta can let us know if they have tried this, and provide an overview of the results.
No, you can't have it!

Well, I've been testing 7.5 since it came out and was mostly interested in the new features surrounding BPMN and BPEL. I have to admit that I haven't found it possible to simulate BPMN models so far. And yes, I agree if EA were to have something like that it would really become a very powerful tool - more than it is right now of course.

Me too, I have been testing the 7.5 Beta and for the life of me I just don't get it. I can create the BPEL diagram and are presented with the correct dialogs for connecting to webservices etc. But where is the BPEL generation?

Fot me, this one of the most attractive features of version 7.5 ... so help please!
Models are great!
Correct models are even greater!

EA doesn't simulate your model directly.

To generate, first make sure you've set EA to use the Business or Ultimate editions from your beta test dialog.

You can then Right-click on the BPEL Process element and select the BPEL | Generate BPEL context menu option. The Generate BPEL dialog displays.
