Fan-out Routing (Reverse Tree)
« on: October 01, 2009, 05:32:14 pm »
The recently (for us old timers) enhanced Tree routing (see Line Routing versus Styling versus Patterning functionality is very good.

However it is targetted at diagrammatic situations where you have fan-in (a number of relationships whose destination is the same element).

There are also numerous situations where a fan-out is required (a number of relationships whose source is the same element).

So I'm going to request that the Tree routing functionality be enhanced to provide a Reverse Tree (fan-out).

Actually,as I write, it seems to me that fan in/out aught to be an attribute of the line style and be applicable to any routing (not just Tree - but I'll take Tree as a starter).

Thoughts? Votes?

I'd also suggest that the tree routing line styles should:
  • support more than just two columns (horizontal mode) or two rows (vertical mode)
  • have a keyboard accelerator assigned to them
  • be available on the line styles tool bar
