not far away!

like... if this actually is a Christmas present, it's probably an early one.

I must say, I needed this "better" version more than a week ago. Some of my collegues are working in Word again, just because we can't get stuf out via the report engine. So actually, that means rework  :-/, with an extra change on human errors, or a change in extra reviews.

BTW: It should be nice to see some release plans, and some history information on releases... with dates that they were released.

And for the final "piece the resistance".... hand us over a version of the beta, so we could start shooting the d@mn thing ;-)

I don't like the release plans so far.  :'(

I would expect with all modern software develop technologies, that it is know upfront, what the software will bring.  :P

And for sure, it will keep us kids busy for a short period ;)

Given this is a major release number release,
I wonder, can we expect a conversion of the database for new schema,
or upping the requirements to use (by default) a more modern version of the access database.
{all good ideas I hasten to add}.

Taking another angle, it seems to me Sparx take a reasonably agile approach to developing EA, and one of the XP fundamental tenets is involving the customer, and two XP values are feedback and communication then using the community in these roles would seem a no brainer  :D

Thanks for the search, however it seems like speculating on the stock market  :P

This is so exiting, if no-one release some tension... it will be a dissapointment in the end... So I stop and see when this present is brought onto my attention.

Sadly I cannot install the 8.0 beta next to an existing 7.5.
Why?
The disclaimer for the 8.0 beta clearly states that we shouldn't use it on production models, so I still need my v 7.5 to do actual work.

Is is so hard to allow two installations on the same machine?
(I know it isn't since EA and EA Lite live together happily on the same machine)

Like each time:
zip current EA
install new version
rename EA to EA8
unzip the old one

I just invoked the Layout Manager. It sent EA to an endless loop. That's too beta for me....

Although that procedure might work I'm still nto at ease with it.
Unless this is a recommended practice from Sparx I can't be sure it won't f*ck up my EA 7.5 settings.

Diagram Layouts or Workspace Layouts?

Some more details would be appreciated if you can spare the time.

Workspace Layouts was OK for me...

Some Diagram Layouts didn't work (as in not doing what they were supposed to do) but nothing hung for me...  (Yes, I'm aware of the double entendre  ;))

Michael,
please bare with me not reporting for the beta as I currently do not have the time for beta testing. It looped when loading one Workspace Layout but I can't give details...

In a way that's where us Linux folk have it easier:

Create new Crossover bottle.
Install EA8 into new bottle.
Still have old EA in old bottle.
