Consistent appearance override for stereotypes
« on: May 03, 2010, 09:12:34 pm »
The Settings|Uml...|Stereotypes dialog needs to be upgraded to more correctly and consistently provide the user with the ability to define the appearance of stereotyped elements.

The Override Appearance panel is incorrect since the default is NOT (*) None (which is meaningless anyway - since you can mark it and then change the "Default Colors" and override the item's default appearance) but to (Metafile) which implies that the appearance has been overridden by a Metafile.  In the case of both ( ) Metafile and ( ) Shapescript a separate dialog is required to complete the process.  Why not make things consistent and have:
(*) None (the default on creation of a new stereotype)
( ) Standard Appearance ONLY
( ) Metafile
   >--- [ ] Plus Standard Appearance attributes
( ) Shape Script

That is, the "Default Colors" panel needs to be replaced with the same upgraded dialog as mentioned in: Allow all 5 aspects to be set via Default Appearance [F4].  This upgraded dialog would be activated on the pressing of the [Assign] button after marking the (*) Standard Appearance radio button.  The resultant rendering would then appear on the Preview panel.

When applying either Metafile or Shape Script, some elements of the Standard Appearance if not overridden by the Metafile or Shapescript still come into play (although as of build 855) inconsistently! (see: Alternate Image - Font Colour not supported and Border Color overrides Shapescript.  Consequently, if either of these overrides is activated and the Standard Appearance elements are also activated (that is, not set to "Default") then the
  • Plus Standard Appearance attributes[/color] checkbox would also be marked.  The resultant rendering would then appear on the Preview panel.

P.S. I once (a year ago?) mailed with some guy from the support about more or less the same issue (basically it was looking from the Stereotype concept). IIRC he filed a support request but, you guess it.
