Note readability on printed diagrams
« on: January 25, 2011, 01:01:13 pm »
A few years ago after a concerted effort by users, Sparx agreed to create Notes compartments.  Before that we were forced to create separate "Feature Linked Notes" tied to the item's Element Notes property and position it over the element where the Notes compartment is now.  Very tedious.

Now, this ability to have a Notes compartment has been a boon - especially in the enterprise space.  However there is still one drawback.  You can only specify the note text colour for the entire repository.  So...  If you "fill" the item with certain background colours, the notes text will effectively become unreadable - especially on a printed page (and particularly with colour lasers).  The effect is mitigated somewhat - but not much - on the screen as the transmitted light makes it easier to read than the reflected light of the printed page.

In order to make the notes text readable, I'm forced back into the "Feature Linked Note" scenario above.  It would be much better if we could get a defined background colour for notes compartments (and while we're at it for the other compartment textual entities - sucha s attributes, methods etc).  The default "Element Fill" background colour is fine - as an initial default.

Essentially, I'm suggesting that the compartments be isolated from the item fill colour to allow their contents to be more easily read.
The fill colour could still be shown as a small edge strip around the item - so as to reinforce the item's fill colour.  (Do I need to supply a sample diagram - I hope not! I'm sure you get the idea)

If there is support for this idea, I'll submit a formal request.

Thoughts?
Paolo

I can feel the support from the "silent majority"...  ;)

So I've submitted a request...
