Requirements Management Features
« on: August 23, 2013, 05:52:59 pm »
After trialing Enterprise Architect 10 (build 1008) I believe the requirements handling could be improved. Features which I would like to see are:

1. In built support for SysML requirements. For a SysML requirement, I want to use the Text attribute to hold the main body of the requirement instead of a “notes” field.

2. The option to use indentation to depict containment hierarchy on a SysML diagram in the same way as can be done with the Standard View Package Browser.

3. When using the Standard View Package Browser to review requirements, the ability to show several fields expanded to their own rows. At the moment, only the “Notes” property can be shown on its own row. I want to show the contents of my own custom fields e.g. “Rationale”, “Verification Proposal” etc.

4. The contents of custom fields displayed when they are shown on a single row (i.e. when not expanded to their own separate rows). For example, a memo field currently only shows the string <memo>. Instead, I would like to see as much of the memo’s text displayed as possible. The option to apply word wrapping would be useful when space is limited.

5. The ability to be able to edit requirements and fields in the table view directly without having to open a dialogue box.

Regards,

Ben

Dear BenF,

there are a few plugins out there, which enhance the Requirement management functionality.

Otherwise, you can build your own addin for creating your desired functionality.

I've been working to get our team setup with using SysML and EA. I agree with many of the points, and have experienced them while trying to import our requirements tree via using JavaScript within EA.

In EA in general, the containment relationship is not automatic, and does not reflect the project browser. I submitted a feature request for this.

The tag for the text field does provide the memo value, but I think that there is a way around that. You have to set or read the tagged notes instead of the tagged value I believe.

Also, using the sysml extended requirement would allow you to show the verification method etc in element symbol.
