Filter for treeview in Project Browser
« on: October 28, 2015, 06:29:36 pm »
Hi,

I am quite new to EA and I work with huge treeview structures in project browser and facing a problem to find the right item in treeview using "Find in Project Browser" command as it is very time consuming due lots of matches.

I would prefer to have a free text filter field in Project Browser instead of an old Find next option in dialog. Same behavior is implemented in in Visual Studio for Solution Explorer.

best regards,
Tomas

You will find (pun) that there have been requests in the past to improve the searchability of the Project Browser.

Your suggestion of a filter has merit.

12.1 was supposed to be a significant improvement to aspects such as this in EA, but no improvements in usability are evident.
Based on this you should
  • submit a feature request
  • do not expect to see the improvement in the foreseeable future

Tomas,

I understand the problem. I never use the find in project browser feature.

What you can do is use the 'Find in Model' feature. It even allows you to create your own searches using SQL, which can be very powerful, see also http://bellekens.com/tag/search/ for some examples.

Another option is the quicksearch feature of the EA Navigator. I must say that this is currently the feature of the EA Navigator I use the most, and I would have a hard time to live without.
The EA Navigator is a free open source add-in for Enteprise Architect.
