Diagram layout autosizing?
« on: January 27, 2016, 09:25:40 pm »
Hello!

I am in the middle og creating meta models. I use "UML Structural > Class" diagrams for these models.

I have noticed, though, that whenever I place elements outside the borders of the diagram, the edges of the diagram does not autosize to fit the contents. How can I make the diagram fit to the content?

Thanks!

Hello,

Open the diagram properties dialog and select the Diagram tab; click Advanced and select Scale to 1 Page.

Cheers,

I always have the pan&zoom window docked. There are several magnification glasses/sliders to help with that.

Ah, yes. qwerty's suggestion is most likely what you're after.

q's talking about the on-screen display, I'm talking about the printing size (what's shown as faint lines in the diagram). But for the on-screen display, the Pan & Zoom window is what you want.

A weird thing about the magnification slider on the bottom right is that is sometimes doesn't zoom enough, making parts of the diagram unreachable.

That can be avoided when zooming using CTRL+Scrollwheel

I almost never use that slider at bottom right. It always felt glitchy so that's probably the reason for not using it. The pan&zoom is fine, though.

The bottom-right slider is only a local, or viewport, zoom.

The zoom you set in the pan & zoom window is saved with the diagram, so the diagram is opened to the same zoom next time, whether by you or by another user.

The viewport zoom is the same in all diagrams, but only affects your display and isn't saved with any diagram.

Uffe's answer was actually what I was requesting. I needed the workspace of my "artboard" (diagram in Sparx EA) to be scalable because I do a lot of Meta Models, and they can get quite space intensive (large content area).

But very nice suggestion with the pan/zoom window, I hadn't noticed it before. Using it now for good, although I come from a graphics background (Illustrator), so using CTRL+Mousewheel scroll for zooming comes intuitively for me.  8)

Thanks, guys!
