Using Edit > Copy on an entity from a diagram in one model and then attempting to use paste into a diagram in a separate model does not work.
Why is it I have a recollection that it used to work?

Interesting. I remember it working, but now I can only paste an element between repositories as an image.

I think the project browser copy+paste does an XMI export. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

I think it's more that it "did".

I just quickly test this on version 12.1.1227, but it still works.

You have to use context menu from the project browser: Copy/Paste | Copy Elements(s) to clipboard and Copy/Past | Past Element(s) from clipboard
