Sprax EA and NAF
« on: March 08, 2016, 06:32:08 pm »
Hello All,

I would like to know if:
1. It is possible to model with the NATO Architecture Framework(NAF). Do I need to install a special extension of the tool in order to use the meta model and if yes where can I find it?
2.Are there Language packages for Sparx EA? Is it possible to change the language from English to another one? I need this for the generation of the documentation.

Thank you in advance.
Cheers
Emma

Hi Emma, and welcome to the forum.

Please note that I'm not a Sparxian, just another user, as are most of us here.

EA does not, to my knowledge, support NAF. There might be a third-party extension out there, but there's nothing on the Sparx web site. It does support UPDM (the Unified Profile for DoDAF / MODAF), but how closely UPDM and NAF correlate I cannot say.

There are language packs for the built-in spell checker. See here for details. I'm not sure whether there are any language packs available for the EA GUI.

As to documentation, that comes down to the language you use in the model content, and what's in the document templates. Since the default templates are most likely not suited to your need, you're going to have to create your own templates anyway. EA does have support for different code pages, which has some implications for the underlying storage model you use. Again, see the above link for details.

HTH,

There is a French language packet (which does not seem to be liked much). I think I have heard of a German one, but can't tell for sure.

The NAF metamodel is a Sparx HTML report, so you may find the authors are on their way to creating their own MDG.
