I have Sparx EA v12, I created a sequence diagram and checked it in SVN. Please see the diagram below

it looks all well on my EA. My coworker got the latest copy of the diagram from SVN also in EA v12, but the displaying becomes

Ignore the color scheme, but all the message lines are in wrong place.

What shall I do to make them look identical?

P.S
More background info, it happens to more than 1 of my co-workers already so I begin to suspect something is wrong with me. But in the past I also had several PC reinstalled already, and I will install different versions of EA (from 9 all the way to 12). Even I restarted from a brand new EA installation regardless of the version, I always can open all the diagrams properly.

This might probably happen if you have unsaved changes in the diagram. But once saved, both should look identical. Which versions do you use (you and your colleague)?

Check the versions of the MDGs you are using are the same and also that the options are the same.  It looks like you may have diffrerent colours defined for the various object types.

Are both installations of EA using the same Diagram Themes?

At a guess the top example is Enterprise Architect 12 theme whereas the bottom one is Enterprise Architect 10

Just a thought

Models are great!
Correct models are even greater!

I am pretty sure everything has been saved, otherwise I have no way to check it in to SVN.

I created the top one and I used EA12 theme. I forced my EA to use EA10 theme the display is still good.

I think you better report it as a bug.

I recently got the same complaint by email from another user (or was that you?)

If more people report this as a bug Sparx will probably fix it rather quickly.

I guess I don't know you in person, but I did send email to somebody I know about this issue. Anyway I reported it as a bug as you suggested, I still hope I can learn something here to tweak the tool to make it work.

The colors might be explained by an MDG not being enabled or a theme difference, however, if you look closely there is a loss of placement for some of the messages relative to the lifeline (the recursive / message to self for example).

If you are certain the diagram was saved before it was checked in then this could be a bug as there should not be any loss of fidelity in this situation.   Try to reproduce it with a fresh/new diagram within the same version controlled package.

it is a brand new diagram already in the same version control. It always works for me even I have a brand new PC and new EA installed, but it most likely to fail on other people any way.

Extensions | MDG Technologies...   Make sure the versions of the enabled technologies are the same.  As a side issue, if you have more than the exact technologies you require then disable the unnecessary ones.  They just slow down startup and can potentially interfere with each other.

As for options, short of exporting the appropriate part of the registry and doing a text compare, you just have to go through Tools | Options... [Ctrl+F9] and the relevant option sets.

I don't think this rendering issue is related to MDG. The diagram renderer is something EA does not offer in any way to external access. Like Geert said it should be reported as bug.

You keep saying that whatever you do on YOUR system, the diagram looks good, whereas it is faulty on OTHER USERS' systems. Are the other users checking the points that have been suggested to you here? My guess is that you have different Tools | Options settings to the others, as Paolo suggested earlier. (Sorry if I am off track, I can't display the diagrams that you provided.)
Best Regards, Roy
