Shared Keystore Server

I'm investigating if we can set up a floating license server for our users.
One of the most important things I want to know, and that I can't find anywhere is or it's possible to connect to a keystore server over the internet (WAN)?
I know that there are problems with IPV6, so I'm not sure if it will work.

I wouldn't recommend using the keystore service over a wan without the use of a VPN. There's no encryption being used.
