Export a package
« on: June 28, 2010, 11:06:56 pm »
Somebody thinks dat de BPMN diagram is not marketing sexy enough. So they want to export a package and then use a different graphical application to give a diagram a more marketable appeal. Anybody a suggestion on how to exporta a diagram such that it can be used by a graphical application to "upgrade the looks of a diagram" ?

How do they define "sexy"?

You can do a lot in EA to make diagrams more visually appealing...

I'm tempted to suggest something like "add a watermark or background image of your favorite 'pinup model'," but that might be too literal a reading of the request...

I'm not aware of any non-literal ways to accomplish the task of "sexing up" an EA diagram once it's been exported other than using a tool like Photoshop... exported images are just that, with no intelligence whatsoever; exported packages are XML, requiring a compatible modeling tool to generate a diagram.

I would follow Paolo's lead and try to "sex up" the diagram within EA. Nahh... I would tell the "somebody" to cram it (with a level of diplomacy directly proportional to the risk of losing my job by doing so ;)).

An afterthought: If a suitably sexy modeling tool is available that can work with an XML input format, you might try cooking up an XSLT transform to convert the package XMI... then stick "somebody" with the bill for all the time wasted developing the transform.

Steven,

You can export a diagram in a number of graphical formats (press Ctrl-T) on the diagram.
Then with an appropriate graphical tool you could change the image.

But I agree with the other replies, it would probably more worth it to try and enhance the image within EA. There are a number of options to change the formatting and looks of the diagrams.
