Display elements automaticaly in a grouping box
« on: June 28, 2016, 06:25:03 pm »
My project consists of different packages per domain, each with Archimate diagrams and application components.
In the 'parent' package I created also an Archimate diagram, but with grouping boxes. These grouping boxes represent the different packages per domain, so I would like to see the created application components in the domains, automatically represented in the grouping boxes.

Can I create instances from the packages to make this happen, or what is the proposed solution in this case?

I am not sure, but maybe I am trying to do a similar thing.
I do not know what group boxes are, but I assume that those are some kind of grouping elements of Archimate, right?

In my scenario I have different subsystems in a model all having e.g. a package containing requirements, architecture, …
I want to visualize what of those “major” packages belong to which subsystem and in what states they are.
To do that I use a Kanban diagram (I know that Kanban is intended for something else).
With the Kanban diagram you can (as far as I understand) define a SQL-query to define what goes in that Kanban diagram. The problem is just that defining a SQL query of style “give me all children at any package under package X is hard.
(One reason why I created this:http://sparxsystems.com/forums/smf/index.php/topic,31067.0.html)
Maybe what you try with “Group Box” what I try with Kanban.
Best regards,

If you drag a package onto a diagram one of the options you get is "package as a list" which is actually a chart with some SQly source.  I think this is what you want with some tweaked SQL stuff :-)
