EA Add-In  Licensing Problem?
« on: April 06, 2011, 10:20:06 am »
Hi all,

We're running EA 8 and have purchased floating licenses for UPDM and SysML.  A sysadmin installed the software onto my machine using his account and did the same with the add-ins.  Floating licenses are served up from a remote server.

EA fires up just fine, but neither the UPDM nor the SysML add-ins are visible within the software suite.  The Add-Ins menu is empty, Manage Add-Ins shows no add-ins and the Settings -> MDG Technologies dialog shows all other technologies except UPDM and SysML.   In referring to the Help Menu -> About EA link, the "About Enterprise Architect" window shows that the software is registered.

Any thoughts as to what is going on?

Thanks!
-Brian

This was answered by the fine support folks on a separate email.  I've included that email for all here.  Thanks Aaron & Sparx!

Every MDG Add-In requires a registry key to exist in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive to tell EA to look for the Add-In.  Unfortunately when installing an MDG Add-In, it is only able to create this key for the user account performing the installation.  So if the Administrator account performs the installation for example, the Add-In will only be visible to the Administrator by default.

To make your installed Add-Ins visible for other user accounts, the following registry key must be exported from the user account that performed the installation:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sparx Systems\EAAddins]

The contents of this registry key must then be imported for each user login on your system that needs access to these Add-Ins.
