SysML 1.3 Nested Ports

The menu option you described actually only works from a port displayed on a diagram - but I was working  in the project browser.

However, thanks to your help,  I can now see that the 'Type'  is also on the Properties pane, under the 'Property' area.  So that is very good, I would want  to build the entire model in the project browser before creating diagrams - which I can do.

The fact that you put model over diagram is very good. But generally a UML grows with users interacting and the graphics are an important part of that. So diagrams as means of growing the model - and to finally show the results to some greater audience - is from my POV the best way to go.
