EA upgrade to 13 - system requirements
« on: October 13, 2016, 10:39:54 pm »
hi all.

I am a registered user of Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect 8 Professional Edition (don't laugh!). judging from the amount of new and updated features I am finally ready to update to the most current version, which is v13 at the moment.

just dropping in to verify if this is still completely supported on Linux as v7 and 8 have been. I see that your installation tutorial (http://www.sparxsystems.com/support/faq/enterprise-architect-WINE.html) has not changed at all - so is this still valid for v13?

I am using Linux Mint 18 (based on/compatible with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS).

kind regards,
Carsten

There are some recent threads talking about V13 in general and wine in particular. Try a search or skim the most recent threads.

Hi Carsten,

Yes, EA 13 is supported on WINE and actually contains many improvements in regards to Linux/Mac compatibility.  See:
http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/ea/13/index.html#linux

The installation process should still be quite similar to EA 8, except that EA installers are now distributed as a .MSI file rather than a .EXE, so the install command is slightly different now.  The page you mention was recently revised to hopefully make the entire installation process more clear.

thanks a lot and please excuse my lazyness. I was expecting some relevant information in other threads, but was unsure whether those might be recent enough to cover v13 yet. so an official statement is appreciated very much.

You should check the threads however. They are worth reading.

The page you mention was recently revised to hopefully make the entire installation process more clear.
Unfortunately, there are still some issues that I am aware of, and trying to get updated.

In particular, Appendix D is incorrect and unneeded.

The person who told me that, then installed Wine via that package manager in Mint 17.3. EA worked reasonably well, but gave an error message. After updating using the wine-builds ppa, the error was resolved. I imagine that Mint 18 includes a newer version of Wine. It may be recent enough to work properly, but I would still recommend using the ppa if possible.
