Which Edition?
« on: November 10, 2016, 08:01:15 pm »
I am looking to purchase Enterprise Architect for personal useage. All I need to do is fool around with ArchiMate and scripting from the inside and using the API from the outside.
Do you think that this is covered by the basic Desktop Edition?

I bought my license in 2003 or so when they had very cheap prices and simple licensing model. That has later been converted to Corporate. I now pay an annual subscription of around 60€. The license is ideal since it has all important things I need, especially the ability to connect to various RDBMS (plus using security and a few more features). You should look here to compare the editions-

According to the editions table, Desktop gives you ArhicMate and automation, but not scripting. You need Corporate for that.

But in-EA scripting, compared to going through the external API, only adds a GUI context, ie the ability to check what's selected in diagrams and project browser, the ability to write output to EA's output window, and a few similar things. If those aren't key requirements, you can get by with just the external API.
