How to make relative links work in EA Lite?
« on: April 19, 2017, 11:07:20 pm »
Dear Users!

I created a model, that includes a lots of hyperlinks (of Word documents mostly) and I used relative links in it, that  includes the code „%something%\...”. I did this with the help of „Local directories and Paths” option. I have sent the model file and the linked documents to my colleague, who had EA Lite. He could open it, but the links did not work, because in EA Lite the „Local directories and Paths” option is not available, that is why he could not update the paths of the hyperlinks.

We also tried to change the path in „paths.txt” in „ %AppData% \Sparx Systems\EA” but it did not help. Do you have maybe any ideas, why? When I changed the „paths.txt” on my computer, where I use the full version of EA, it worked, but when I did it on a computer, that has only EA Lite, I did not work.

It is critical for us to find a way to share the modell with our colleagues, who has only EA Lite, and and make the hyperlinks work for them. A year long project is in danger because this problem.

Can you help us with this problem? We would preciate any ideas.

Thank You!
Dániel Almási

Most likely it's because Lite doesn't support local paths :-/ You could contact Sparx support or wait a day or two if some Sparx supporter has an idea.

If local paths isn't a feature of EA lite, you'll need to convert the paths back to absolute using the local paths dialog.

An alternative is to use internal documents. (ie. drag the document onto the diagram. It is stored inside the model)

@Alma,

put in a formal feature request.  As qwerty suggests, it is "passing strange" that EA Lite does not support local paths.  We are looking to make much more expanded usage of EA Lite in the futures so this may need to be fixed.

Thanks for all the answers!

Meantime we could find the what was the probelm.
There is a very strange mistake with EA Lite: EA Lite does read the AppData\Roaming\Sparx Systems\EA\paths.txt file, but when  I inserted the path, it was not enough, I needed to begin a new row in the file (push the enter key after the path) because without it EA Lite was not able to read the path.

I think it can generate problems in the future, so I recommend to Spark Systems to fix it.

You should send a bug report using the link bottom right of this very page. Just provide a link to this thread.
