License Server questions
« on: March 15, 2018, 09:30:58 pm »
Hi,

We have received today two floating licenses from EA and we have one Windows machine at our company where more the 5 license servers for different software are installed.
But first we want to install the EA License server on a third Windows machine because we have to check that our mathworks license server will not be interrupted.

I think it is not possible to install the license server first on the third windows machine and later we install the server again on the right machine and later we will delete the third windows machine. I have no information found on the Sparx website to move the license server to another windows machine.

What is the best solution which we can do without to getting in trouble with the licenses?

AFAIK you can install licenses on any license server independently.

So I would not expect any issues.

Hello Marcel,

Geert is correct: from the technical perspective, there are no issues. (I am not a Sparx employee and will offer no advice on licensing terms and legal implications.)

Two Sparx license servers on the same network do not appear to communicate, so there's no check to prevent you from installing the same license in two keystores.
So for what you want to do, you can (again, from the technical perspective) install a license server on the third machine, install your licenses in that, and then remove them from the old keystore once you've configured all EA clients to use the new keystore and checked that they can acquire licenses.
To move to a different host, just repeat the same process.
