How to distribute My Queries?
« on: June 27, 2018, 08:36:03 pm »
For distributing scripts and template diagrams to my colleagues I am offering an about empty .eap file as a template.
Recently I created useful SQL and "Query Builder" queries, too. They appear in my EA installation under "Find in Project"/My Searches.
However, they seem not to be part of the .eap file but my personal installation of EA.

How can I distribute "My Searches" to my colleagues?

Kind Regards

Rolf

Rolf,

You can distribute them in an MDG technology.

We have a couple of MDG's that contain nothing but searches.

Another alternative is to export/import the searches themselves, but in that case they are still stored in the user profile.

Hi Rolf,

Searches are stored locally in the file system as you've found. What you can do is create an MDG Technology, which in turn can be either deployed to a file share or imported into a project.

The MDG Technology generation process is pretty straightforward -- just click through the wizard. It's a good idea to spend a little time thinking about the name and ID, and deployment, but the generation itself is a matter of seconds.

Another alternative is to export/import the searches themselves, but in that case they are still stored in the user profile.

A point to note is that Searches cannot be exported as 'Export Reference Data' rather it must be done from the 'Search Utility (Find In Project)' -> Export Search / Import Search.

or just sharing the file %appdata%\Sparx Systems\EA\Search Data\EA_Search.xml also works.
