Moving through the diagrams

I seem to be a little confused in the correct method to 'realise' through the diagrams.

Don't think I'm being very clear here...

What I'm trying to get at is what is the recommended method of moving through the diagrams, linking them together?

Is there a more comprehensive example available that shows a real-world example?

What I do is to use composite diagrams in first place. Back-navigation is only possible by closing the last opened diagram (at least I found this the quickest way and too many open diagrams are confusing). Also I drag diagram frames sometimes. Very rarely I use symbolic links.
