project browser not showing all packages/elements
« on: November 30, 2018, 12:24:32 am »
Hi,

I recently encountered a crash from which I wasn't able to recover my OS any more (driver update ). So I had to install all my programs again of which EA was one of them. But after this new installation of the same EA version, I'm not able to see all the packages/class diagrams/elements any more. Some are shown and others are not. I'm 100% sure that the file contains all the data that I had before the crash and this project file was on a separate disk ( so it's definitely not affected by the crash ). And at the time of the crash I did not have an EA session open.

Try a project integrity check. If that doesn't recover your lost elements, I guess you'll have to go back to your backup. (you do have a backup don't you?)

Hi Geert,

I tried that but I didn't see anything on the overview in the integrity check that remotely suggest "missing elements or so" , they were all about deleting connectors. Before I had the crash I worked on that file for a year ( v9.3 ) and a couple of days ago my colleague wanted to make some changes to that file but he couldn't see these exact missing modules/packages in his version ( v12  ) while I had the same file open and I could see everything. I ended up exporting my project and that helped. Now I have installed 9.3 clean and I can't see the missing modules/packages. So my question is: " what is different in saving a project and exporting a project?" . This issue is reproducible if I try to open his file ( originally exported from my project ) , I don't see the missing modules, but he sees them. We are sitting next to eachother and verified that we are opening the same file ( shared folder).

I've never heard of something like that.

If working on .eap files you can try a some of the ms access specific functions such as repair compact and update indexes.
A project transfer to a fresh file might work as well.

Geert

PS. v9.3? Are you still on Windows XP as well? :o

Windows 8.1  ;D  , but I have to correct something, it's not exporting but "save project copy" . I do use .eap files, but where can I find those repair and update functionality ?

"Save as" will merely create a copy of the .eap file.

Project transfer will actually start from a fresh file and copy each table individually, thus rebuilding the whole model.

I'm not sure where those menu options where located in 9.3. My memory doesn't go back that far. ;D
But you should be able to find their location in the help file.
