ArchiMate 2 toolbox and diagrams missing
« on: December 09, 2020, 12:14:45 am »
For some reason I can't create new ArchiMate 2 diagram anymore.
This happens in versions 15.1 and 15.2 on both SQL Server as local (empty) .eap files.

Regardless of which perspective I choose (including all) I don't see any options for adding ArchiMate 2 diagrams, or selecting ArchiMate 2 toolboxes.
Archimate 3.1 works correctly.

Reported

I've noticed this problem on my own computer and at two different clients (one on 15.2, another on 15.1)
Tested on an empty .eap model and that doesn't make a difference either.

Anyone else having this problem?

The funny/weird thing is that the toolboxes are present on existing ArchiMate 2 diagrams.

But if you select another toolbox, there's no way to select it again (except by closing and reopening the diagram)

If you really need to go back to ArchiMate 2, create your own ArchiMate 2 perspective which includes the ArchiMate 2 technology. Same for old versions of BPMN, SysML etc.

I don't need to go back, I want to keep working on existing models in the same language.
Upgrading from ArchiMate 2 to ArchiMate 3 is not a painless procedure. Especially if you are using Groupings that contain other elements. (they became boundaries and as such are not visible anymore in the project browser)

Just tried that, at it seems to work, thanks.

I still think that "All" should include "All" technologies, but that might just be me.

It sounds like you are having a similar problem to what Paolo and I were experiencing with missing diagrams.
You could try this advice from Sparx Systems Support as it worked for me with the missing UML Core diagrams.
Could you please try resetting your perspectives via the ribbon "Start -> Desktop -> Perspectives -> System Visibility -> Reset All
Here is a reference to my post on the topic
Missing UML Core diagrams (sparxsystems.com)
Happy to help

It's actually different.

Apparently it's a conscious decision from Sparx to remove the ArchiMate2 MDG from all the standard perspectives (including the All Perspectives perspective)

The only way to get it back is to create your own perspective (which I did)

But thanks for the suggestion.

Oh now that is interesting news. I guess I could see the reason for it as a way to encourage everyone to use the latest version. But is that consistent with all the MDGs like BPMN and SysML?
