Add a Section Break without a Page Break

Hello,

I am generating a document and want to have page numbers start following the table of contents which is divided by a section break. This causes an awkward blank page 1 right after the TOC before the rest of the document begins. Is there a way to get rid of this page break? I have tried putting the section break in both the template as well as the linked document where I have text stored which the template retrieves from. Apologies if this has been posted before, but I found another post where this problem was never answered. As a secondary less important question, how would I go about dropping the page count to that of just the section? It is not ideal having the footer of the last page read "Page 26 of 30".
