Now that we have the new "in-situ" diagram opening default,  when you open a diagram via the item [Double-Click] process, the current diagram is suppressed, and the selected item's diagram is opened in its place.  An "open diagram in a new tab" option is needed.  Perhaps [Ctrl+Double Click]?

At present, if I don't want to suppress the current diagram, I have to find the new diagram in the browser and [Double-Click] it in the browser.  This will open it in a new tab.

Very unproductive!

Sparx has replied.  Works as Sparx designed it.  There will be no change.   :(

One good thing about the new behaviour is that the tab for the linked diagram gets a left-pointing arrow, which when clicked takes you back to the diagram you came from. So when drilling down into a hierarchy of diagrams, (a) you don't get lots of diagram tabs that you then have to close one by one, and (b) you can easily wind back up the heirarchy when you want to. Nevertheless, there are times when I would still like to be able to easily open a linked diagram in a new tab, so I have raised a feature request for this (I suggested either double-click while holding down the Shift key, or a command on the element's context menu. Perhaps if more people raise similar feature requests, Sparx might be persuaded. One can but hope.

I don't know if this functionality was there previously because, in over a decade of use, I've never used it before! BUT, if you select an element with an attached diagram and hit the [Enter] key, it will open the attached diagram in a new tab.

Well, I never!   (In this case literally!)
Paolo

[Of course, this begs the question...  "If the functionality was there when I asked for the feature request and Sparx denied it, why didn't they point me at this simple solution?"]

Good find, Paolo! I would never have guessed that select then [Enter] would behave differently from double-clicking. Thank you for sharing.

If you go to Start - Desktop - Visual Style and untick "Enable Concise Diagram Navigation" then I think that achieves what you want, opening linked diagrams in new tabs.

Thanks, Pete,

I knew about that.  That wasn't the point of the thread.  It's about consistent UIs.  There's already a UI pattern for such "Concise Navigation", EA doesn't abide by it.

Yet, they provide the (effective) functionality.

It would seem that this functionality is item type-dependent!!!!     ::) ::) ::)

The example was a DB table.  [Enter], [Shift+Enter] as well as the Usual [Alt+Enter] will open the properties dialog.  Why use one keyboard shortcut when you could use three?  >:(

It won't consistently work.  :'(

Is the functionality available under keyboard assignment?  I don't know which inconsistently-named :-X command would apply.

Further to this totally inconsistent mechanism, even using the "correct"  mechanism to get another diagram in a new tab - find the diagram in the Project Browser, open the diagram directly therein; the diagram selected in the main window MUST NOT be the last diagram you opened, else regardless of your instruction, it will overwrite that diagram with the browser selection!

I've been getting caught by a variant of this behaviour recently.  Sparx have said they can't reproduce this problem.  Can anyone confirm this behaviour?

Also what about my original point about being able to force the opening of a diagram in a new window even under "Concise Navigation"?
