Help with copying/pasting a view from one Sparx EAP to another
« on: February 20, 2021, 07:54:58 am »
I've got a question that hopefully has a pretty easy and straightforward answer.

So I've inherited an EAP file from another organization, and I need to take one of the System views from that EAP and incorporate it into the architecture that I'm currently working on.

However, I can't seem to successfully copy/paste or export/import this view into my current working file. Regardless of the method used, when I get the data into my current working file, I lose all of the linked objects, the only ones that are kept are the ones that are in that specific package. Is there a way to select ALL of the objects and references and migrate them out of one file and into a new one, or do I have to rebuild this thing from scratch?

Thank you for your help!

Without being able to look into your and the ingherited project it's almost impossible to answer. Depends on HOW these are related. That is: were they created completely independent and how are those references (linked objects) defined?

Thanks. So the diagram that I'm looking at is a Class diagram that rolls up a lot of other classes from various subsystems. Those class objects reside in the packages for their various subsystems.

Hope that helps!

Hi,
A quick an dirty way to do this is by creating a new Folder, copying the diagram you want into that folder and choosing Deep ( or Smart).
I do this every once in a while to Archive a specific version. There are more elegant ( and proper) ways of versioning, but thisi suits my purpose.

Thanks for this tip, and I was able to replicate the diagram, but I'm still unable to move the copy from this EAP to the new one that I'm working in.
