Hi,
this a very special one, but maybe someone can help us.

We have large MS SQL EA repository (cca 50 concurrent users, 1 mio objects, 100k diagrams) and we are experiencing Microsoft Cursor Engine error very often.
Our DB admin believes that this is casued by "read commited snapshot" setting and suggests to switch to "read uncomitted snapshot" setting.
Actually we had the "read uncomitted snapshot" setting on several years ago, but there were some issues (? unfortunatelly I don't know which ones...) so DB admins switched to "read comitted snapshot" setting.

Does anyone of you know:
1) What problems can "read comitted snapshot" cause with EA 15.2 and such large repository?
2) Do you have any other solution for "Microsoft Cursor Engine" error with MS SQL (2017)?

Thank in advance

Miloš Lang

We have "Read committed Snapshot On" = False on all the SQL server databases we use.
Never had the Microsoft Cursor Engine error.

At this size you're probably a bigger player with Sparx. You should send a bug report and see what happens.

Thank for the answers... Well I also thougt that we could do better with 100 floating licenses, but my experience is just reply mail "Registered Bug Report" with no other feedback...
My experience is that posting the problem to this forum is much more efficient and sometimes we get even an answer from Eve...
To me it would be much appreciated to concentrate to one huge "stabilization release" without new features, just to fix all the old issues (and we all know that there are some very old ones...)

Sending in a bug report, or a direct mail to [email protected] usually works.

You have to take into account that Sparx HQ is located in Australia, so they usually take a day to reply.
If you don't have a response after a few days, I would send a reminder.

It depends on the kind of issue you have. I concur that he forum is more responsive to most questions. But sometimes you need to bug the flee keepers. As Geert said: mail them and bump in again if there's no response. No idea if that's more helpful. But if even Geert has no idea about your issue you are either on your own or you need luck in getting a Sparx response.
