Move elements in other ways than drag-and-drop?
« on: May 13, 2023, 12:09:30 am »
If you want to move, say, a use case from one package to another you can simply drag it to the other one.
But you may desire a more restricted way of moving things around --- particularly when it will affect a number of use cases -- in order to to limit the risk of dropping them in the wrong place.

I've come across other modeling tools which offer a wizard-like dialogue: Select the elements. Right-click and select the Move functionality. A dialog window opens, to let you select the destination by browsing a package tree.

Is there anything similar available in Sparx EA?

right click on element -> insert related element

Currently known as bugged (only one filter block works at a time)
They will fix the filter issue in a future release

right click on element -> insert related element

This is for showing elements on a diagram, not for moving them from one location to another.

Thanks, Gert! And sorry for not getting back to you until now. I've tried this feature a number of times now, and it not only works well but also quickly.

I know that I once searched for a cut-and-paste functionality but was only able to find a copy-and-paste. I have probably figured out why: When I try to recollect and repeat the steps, I notice that the cut functionality disappears as soon as you select more than one element.

For your information,

Simpler, select items in the Browser and Press Ctrl+X, and then select a target package in the Browser and press Ctrl+V.

HTH,
So cut is available, but only if you use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+X?
If it works, then it should be available in the context menu as well IMHO.

I would consider that a bug.

Ctrl+X works, as Takeshi writes and also when you select multiple elements. I've confirmed it.
The context menu option disappears though, which I will report.
