Pre setting default diagram properties

There has been some conversation over the years, for example

I wonder what the state of the art is now.
For example I would like all new diagrams to have preset

• use alias if available
• (unset) show additional parents)
• (unset) show namespace
• display element lock status
• (unset) show element stereotypes (Elements)
• (unset) stow stereotype labels (Connectors)

There's a little bell ringing about some attributes you can set for diagrams in a profile (only through a backdoor). Paolo started a thread about this. Can't recall the details at the moment :-/

There's basically two ways:

- use the template package. You would have to create a diagram for each type, and set the settings you want. I'm not sure if it works for all the settings, but definitely for most.
- If you have your own diagram types defined in a profile, you can set most of those attributes there. Some of them are accessible through the profile helper, but for others you need to add them to the initial value of an attribute on the metatype.
