MDG Integration with multiple eclipse installs?
« on: July 31, 2013, 12:09:17 am »
It is quite common these days to have multiple eclipse versions installed (e.g. I have a v3.7, v4.2 and the newest v4.3 installed). This is, because certain plugins alas only work with specific eclipse versions (one can, however - at least usually - share the same projects).

Is it somehow possible to integrate EA with multiple versions or installations of eclipse (and ideally specify which eclipse version to use during the "project connection" step)?

Furthermore, I have at least three additional IDEs installed that are "eclipse derivatives" (i.e. they are essentially some eclipse core with certain proprietary plugins): Tibco Business Studio, JBoss Developer Studio and WSO2's Carbon Studio. I tried, but it's apparently impossible to convince EA to interact with any of those (EA endlessly asks whether to wait any longer for eclipse to start up). It seems, that the problem is, that the main .exe of these products is called something else than "eclipse.exe". Couldn't EA be made to check for the actual name of the file that was picked in the "path to eclipse" config dialog and not for "eclipse.exe"?

It's certainly not the intention of the MDG Integration add-in to link with multiple versions of Eclipse on the same system.  It's not something we officially support.  I'm not personally aware of any way to do it.
