Access to the registered section appears to rely on HTTP Basic Authentication, which may present challenges in environments that have adopted modern authentication standards.

As a result, it may not be possible to:

  • Download the latest versions of Enterprise Architect or Pro Cloud Server
  • Access registered customer resources
  • Submit support requests through the website

This raises a question for other organisations operating in managed enterprise environments:

Is anybody experiencing similar access issues, and is there a modern authentication option available or planned?

It would be particularly useful to understand whether support exists, or is planned, for authentication methods such as. For organisations with strict security requirements, reliable access to software updates and support services is essential for maintaining and supporting Sparx environments.

Any information from Sparx Systems or other customers regarding current options, workarounds, or future plans would be greatly appreciated.

I did submit a support ticket, via e-mail because I cannot access the registered site from a managed device.

Thanks for contacting Sparx support.

Based on the error message you are receiving, the Registered User section of the Sparx Systems website currently uses HTTP Basic Authentication. We have received similar reports from users whose managed systems or browser environments block the use of Basic Authentication. Unfortunately, if your environment has been configured to disallow HTTP Basic Authentication, there is currently no workaround that we can provide from our side.

However, some users working in restricted corporate environments have been able to access the Registered User section by using a personal network or by temporarily disabling their VPN, where permitted by their organization's security policies.

We are currently investigating alternative authentication methods, but at this stage we do not have a confirmed solution or an estimated timeline to share.

We hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions or require additional assistance, please let us know

Needless to say that using a personal network or temporarily disabling security policies is not a very palatable option.
