Is there something better than shape script?
« on: September 25, 2015, 10:35:25 pm »
Dear All,

(sorry if the question has popped up already)

while defining MDG techs / UML profiles, I would like to customize the layout and behavior of the graphic elements representing the model elements.

I know ShapeScript can be used for this, but the capability of this are very limited --and as far I know -- not debuggable. It has not been improved since version ~9, anyway.

So my question to you -- is there another way to define custom elements with fully controlled behavior? In worst case to implement it separately as an add-in (DLL) and use it?

I would be happy to know about your experiences.

Do you think it would make sense to ask Sparx to improve shape scripts? Or do you know about accepted improvement requests?

Thank you and best regards,
Gergely

I love shapescripts! :D

Seriously I do, but indeed, it might be useful to have a bit more things to work with sometimes.

I would definitely ask.
Like we say in Antwerp: "Ne NEE hedde en ne JA kunde krijge" (NO you have already, YES you may get)

Thank you Geert,

then I'll ask for it. But at least I will ask if Sparx plans already some extensions.

Nevertheless, there is a second question: is it possible to implement enhanced behavior / presentation using external add-ins? E. g.
- use compartments with different background colors,
- multiple columns,
- listing content of the element with loop.

Thank you,
Gergely

Nope. You do not have native access to the rendering machine. All you can do is calling an add-in to return a string you can print.

Note that this is a user post to users. The official request is on this page bottom right (Support column). Anyhow, don't hold your breath.
