Displaying compartments for non-Classifiers
« on: July 31, 2007, 09:48:32 pm »
In a separate topic (Displaying compartments for Classifiers), I discuss the notion of additional mechanisms for displaying the compartments of a (normally) non-compartmentalized (rectangular) rendered vertexes(Classifiers).

To paraphrase the infamous Monty Python sketch: " 'Twert luxioory!"

Many vertexes(non-Classifiers) can't even be rendered in rectangular notation!   :o

I think this is rampant "vertexism" :) - as far as I can tell, the UML 2.1.1 Superstructure (formal) Specification doesn't inhibit the (optional) use of compartmentalized (rectangular) rendering for elements other than classifiers.

We are using EA to generate "visual" documentation and so we often need to display what's "inside" the vertex.

Please add the same abilities for non-classifier vertexes to display compartment information as classifier vertexes.

Thoughts?  Votes?

This one Poalo, I agree with - there is no apparent reason why any element cant be rendered as a rectangle with appropriate compartments.  However, the argument may arise as to whether there is/are "appropriate" (read unambiguous) compartments for any vertex element. On that, I have no view... (currently  ;D ).

On the other one, I'm not quite sure that I'm with you here.  I see the problem.  I'm just not sure that the proposed solution is any more convoluted? (and possibly worse, moving away from the spec)

p.s.  That'll teach you for trying to split arguments

;D

'Twere good you do so much for charity."

Oh I forgot, we aren't doing him are we.

This'll teach you to conflate two separate arguments...  :P (If you mean the new form of compartment display)

THIS argument (which you accept) is about Consistency, Consistency, Consistency! TM.

The one about additional compartment display options is, in my view, quite separate.   :-*
