Reporting on Component Model diagram

Hello all,
Is there a way to exclude certain components when reporting on a component model diagram? I want my report to contain only certain components, not all. How exactly can I use filters to do this? It seemed to me like you use filters to specify what you want, but not what you want to leave out. It is almost like if somebody creates an element in that diagram, they have to set up the filter to include the element in the diagram. Instead of this, EA should allow the user to set up the filter to exclude what they want - but it doesn't function this way.

I have tried checking the box " Hide noteless elements" box in the Report Option window.

Any help would be appreciated!
