any plan for MDG for VS.NET 2005?
« on: March 24, 2005, 01:58:22 am »
Is there any plan for the MDG for Visual Studio .NET 2005?  If any, when will it be available?

I've heard that VS.NET 2005 will be released at the end of the year.  And our company wants to use VS.NET 2005 beta for a new project now.  I think MDG is an excellent tool since it can help you keep the model and the code synchronized.  But after I tried, it can only work with VS.NET 2003.  It cannot recongnize the VS.NET 2005 project.  If I want to use MDG, then I have to use VS.NET 2003.

I can understand that it is not wise to make a tool that targets at a beta software that may be changed in the future like VS.NET 2005 beta. But is there any beta version of MDG for VS.NET 2005?

Does anybody know any information about this?

Thanks!
Zhu Ming
Best regards!

I would like to echo my support for a version of MDG for VS.NET 2005 as soon as possible. Since working with VS.NET Beta 2, I just can't go back to 1.1 - too many new features and infrastructure changes. It can greatly reduce development time over 1.1.

At the Beta 2 level, VS.NET 2005 might be close enough to its release version to begin development of MDG. Would participate in the MDG beta for this product.

Any news on  possible timelines?

An even bigger question for us would be whether the MDG product itself could somehow integrate with some of the new VS .NET 2k5 Team System features. There are some compelling things there all embedded real-time with your code in Visual Studio as well as the ability to generate unit test code, etc. I'm a huge fan of EA but am expecting a bit of a battle with other users who will likely want to fracture our consolidated, EA-centric approach by using some of these new Team System features. Thoughts?

I attended a Microsoft conference recently which was focussed on productivity tools.
The issue about CASE tools was brought up and the microsoft people answered that, although VS 2005 will include some additional integration with Visio in order to produce forward and backward engineering, the way the where aiming to is to define a standard architecture language for VS (and microsoft in general) and allow support for third party plugins and tools for VS to work with this.

If you are too used to VS i would suggest thinking the tendency might go more in the lines of tangible than MDG link.

Just a thought....

Hello blackpuppy,

Since the VS 2005 Beta 2 looks a lot more stable, we have started working on modifying the MDG link to accommodate the changes. We will have the updated link available in a short time so you can continue working on your current projects, with minimal amounts of fuss.

I'm just moving over to VS2005 and wondered what the status of MDG for 2005 is - I looked for a link on the main site but did not see one.

My read of TomO's post on May 16 is that a build of MDG for VS2005 is coming soon. Hopefully very soon  :)
