And anyway, why shouldn't an activity have an alias, regardless of the partition situation?
No, you can't have it!

For an Activity element, the Partition field is effectively the Alias field. If you type a value in the Partition field, it displays on the element as an Alias.

What it was originally supposed to do is identify the Partition containing the Activity, but a) it doesn't seem to do that and b) in order to click on the Activity to display the Properties and see the Partition field, you would have to look in the Partition in either the diagram or Project Browser, so you would already know...

I have made a brief comment in the description of the element properties dialog to the effect that the function of the Alias field for an Actity is served by the Partition field.

OK, I guess that works for me.

Thanks for covering it in the documentation Roy. That covers the 'why not' issue well enough that users won't stumble over it.
