[RTF generation] Table of contents
« on: July 15, 2008, 07:06:34 pm »
I found that working with standard templates, "basic template" for instance, that a "table of contents" looks fine. Though when I create a new template based on the basic templateinsert one myself, it looks like the toc-style has the style property "pagebreak before" set without the ability to undo this. This results in a table of contents scattered over numerous pages.

It is possible to unset this property on the fly, but when repaginating, it ofcourse, gets set again.
When trying to alter the style (toc1 for instance), then suddenly it seems that the property is not set for style toc1!? So unsetting it is not possible. When unchecking the edit styles again, the property happily shows again when looking in the "Paragraph" menu.

I am not sure about the page break before, but in the basic template there is a Page Break after the TOC.
In the RTF editor - have you tried setting: View | Paragraph Marker - on.
This allows you to select the paragraph marker and delete it.

Yes I have, but there is no page break marker like when pressing ctrl+enter. If I insert a table of contents, all TOC1 styles are just bumped to the next page (without showing a page break). And I can't figure out why.

That is odd - with:
View | Paragraph Marker - on
The Ctrl-Enter - does show up as a Page-break marker  - a one second to what is already there.
What version/build are you using?

I'm using the latest version. 7.1.831.

I don't really know what your meaning with: "a one second to what is already there.".

If I just press ctrl+enter I do see a page break marker, if I insert a table of contents (which uses font style toc1), I don't see a page break marker, but the lines with style toc1 does bump to the next page.

Also if I select the toc1-styled line, disable the "Paragraph | Page break before"- option and then enable the same option, you can see the style behave properly (as in staying on the same page when PBB = inactive or bumping to the next when PBB = active).

I added some screendumps for you to check it out.

This is the normal pagebreak

Here you see that PBB is active when selecting the toc1 style and checking the Paragraph properties.

But when I edit the toc1 style...

You can see the PBB property is suddenly inactive...

And this is what I see when inserting a table of contents with a toc1 style in it... No PB marker like with ctrl+enter.

I can't seem to reproduce this.  Can you send an example template through to support - along with the description and the output generated.
