Relationship Matrix does not show BPMN Activities
« on: July 29, 2008, 01:52:10 am »
I have a very small model that I put together to demonstrate how EA Sparx can be used for traceability.  One use case, a couple of requirements, one business scenario.

I created the business scenario in BPMN, and then used the analysis tools to add in requirements, creating a dependency between specific activities and each requirement.  My intent is to show how the requirements are traceable to process activities.

When I go to open up the relationship matrix, I can see the requirements, but not the BPMN activities.  I've tried everything I can think of to get them to appear, but they do not.

What gives?

Interesting...

[edit]See the post below from Simon before reading further.[/edit]

Internally they are stereotypes - EA uses a profile for BPMN. Ensure that the profile is loaded via the Settings | MDG Technologies dialog.

Somehow I doubt that's the real problem here. If it does not work I suggest you fire off a quick email to Sparx and see what they say. Remember they might not read it until start of business in the Land of AUS so give them time.

Please post back if they shed any light on this.

First, make sure that you are using the latest build, there were a number of changes in 831 specifically targetted at making the relationship matrix work better with profiles such as BPMN.

Second, there is an option that hides all profile elements, so click options, and check 'Include Metaclassed Elements'.  You may be able to do this without upgrading, but you'll have to work out the option for yourself if it's different.

The next build is scheduled to further enhance the functionality in this area.

The problem solved itself when I closed EA and reopened it.  I suppose I could have reloaded the project, but I wasn't actually trying to fix this problem.  I had to shut down and restart my machine for other reasons.

Upon reflection, the reason for the problem may have been that the package I was trying to show on the relationship matrix originally had about 10 objects in it.  For the sake of this demo, I had created another package and moved four of the objects to it.  After doing that, None of these objects could be seen in the relationship matrix.

Restarting EA reloaded the project and fixed the problem.
